Last Thursday I had the absolute pleasure of attending a talk at my University given by the incredible Zigi Shipper, a Holocaust survivor, ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day. I say pleasure, because while it is an extremely difficult topic to … Continue reading

Katniss Everdeen: the role model for girls of today
Yesterday I was ecstatic about finally going to see Catching Fire – who knows how, after reading the trilogy in the space of a fortnight and a ridiculous year-and-a-half wait since The Hunger Games, I managed to wait over a … Continue reading
2014: Year of the blog
So this is blogging, hey? Kind of like talking to myself, except other people can read it…not that they’re likely to, but maybe that thought in the back of my mind will keep me from too much non-sensical rambling.
I’ve never been one for New Year’s resolutions – partly because I know I’d be rubbish at keeping them, and if you don’t try you won’t fail – what a pessimistic thought! Another reason I don’t make them is because of a personal tradition I keep, of sitting down every year on my birthday, meditating on the past year and thinking about what I’d like to achieve before the next birthday. So in a way, although it happens in November rather than January, I have my own kind of new year resolutions.
One thing I have decided to do this year, though, is blog. Everyone’s doing it these days, and as it pretty characteristic of myself, I’ve left it a little late to join the party – better late then never though, as somebody said once upon a time. I don’t know if it’s just the fact that university life is getting a bit busy and I want some way to procrastinate, but I’m here, I’m blogging, so let’s go. I kept a paper diary through my young teen years, as well as photo albums, and sadly it’s not something I’ve managed to keep up – but maybe, just maybe, having a shiny new ‘diary’ right here on t’internet will help me to document things a bit better.
So Happy New Year, I hope it’s a really great one – and welcome to a little bit of my life.
